I am interested in applying for a Communications Assistant position for a non-profit company. The job posting asks for a cover letter, resume and writing sample. I have the first two covered, but I’m a bit perplexed about what I should use as a writing sample. I haven’t done a lot of substantial writing since college (there’s plenty of that, though, as an English major) but I don’t see how a literary critique or expose article could be relevant. Any ideas about what they may be looking for?

I’m applying for a freelance copywriting position with an online marketing company. What kind of writing sample should I send to something like this? I have a BA and MA in English. I have tons of academic research papers but is that what they want? I’ve also written press releases, memos and reports for my current job. I just don’t know what would be appropriate to submit. Please help.

I am applying for this job where a writing sample is required. I was just taking inventory of my writing samples I could possibly send.

I am wondering if there is a limit to how long my writing sample should be?
