What is the proper way to prepare a marketing product sample package?

I’d like advertise my store’s merchandise in a particular magazine. I’m sending the magazine a package containing sample merchandise from my store. How should I put it together? What else should I include inside the package besides the sample merchandise?
I’m actually interesting in marketing my goods in the magazine’s EDITORIAL section – product placement-type marketing so I’m not paying for it. I’m actually having a really hard time with this because I’m 99% sure that product placement is supposed to be free. But how do I get in??? Help!!!
